An experienced and highly motivated individual is required to manage and co-ordinate a multi-site Phase III randomised clinical trial of high dose rifampicin to reduce treatment duration for tuberculosis. The trial is funded by the MRC’s Joint Global Health Trial’s Scheme.

The trial will recruit adult HIV negative patients with newly diagnosed pulmonary tuberculosis, and compare the best oral treatment of rifampicin at either 1200mg or 1800mg daily for 4 months with the WHO recommended standard 6-month regimen. We aim to recruit 654 patients at 6 sites over 2 years (1 site in Gaborone, Botswana 1 site in Lima, Peru, 1 site in Mexico City, Mexico, 1 site in Conakry, Guinea, 1 site in Kathmandu, Nepal, and 1 site in Mbarara, Uganda.) Recruitment has already started in Botswana and Uganda. The remaining sites will all start recruiting during the first quarter of 2018.

With responsibility for the day-to-day management of the trial, the Trial Manager will assist the principal and co-investigators with preparation of trial materials, applications to ethical and regulatory bodies and the collection and monitoring of trial data.

Applicants must have a bachelors degree in a science/biological science or equivalent knowledge and experience, and have previous experience of clinical trials, preferably within the field of infectious diseases. Detailed knowledge of the requirements governing clinical research is essential including – Ethical approval, Good Clinical Practice and Research Governance. Previous experience of working in clinical trials in Africa, Asia and South America, a detailed knowledge as well as experience of trial monitoring procedures in different settings is essential.

This role will be involve regular overseas trips to the African, Asian and South American clinical trial sites.

The salary for this role will be within the range of £35,575 to £41,860 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
