The Department of People and Technology at Roskilde University is looking for a PhD fellow for the Programme for Learning, Working Life and Social Innovation. The position as PhD fellow is limited to 3 years.

The Doctoral School
You will be enrolled as a PhD student at the Doctoral School of People and Technology and associated with the PhD Programme for Learning, Working Life and Social Innovation. The deadline for starting is as soon as possible.

PhD Programme for Learning, Working Life and Social Innovation The PhD programme is concerned with opportunities and constraints for learning, development and innovation in work, education and civil society. Centrally, the goal is to explore issues with an interdisciplinary approach and an interest in research contributing to developing opportunities for participation, influence and democracy. PhD applications should be based on the profile of the PhD programme.

A number of research groups are attached to the PhD programme, with special interest in receiving applications within the following themes:

  • Changes in traditional forms of work
  • Family life and everyday life of children and adolescents
  • The university as a social and cultural institution in transition
  • Social intervention and Social Entrepreneurship
  • Learning, education and social inclusion in an everyday life perspective

The PhD School for People and Technology conducts research aimed at sustainable solutions, often through experimental approaches and from a perspective of supporting people's active and learning engagement. The department covers human, social, health and IT-science, as well as planning, intervention and design-oriented disciplines. The PhD school has 5 PhD programmes, each with their own focus points: 1/ Learning, Working Life and Social Innovation, 2/ Social Psychology of Everyday Life, 3/ Information Technology, 4/ Society, Space and Technology, and 5/ Health and Society.

Responsibilities and tasks
The PhD position is an educational position and the main tasks in the position are defined as follows in accordance with the Executive Order on the PhD programme at universities and certain artistic educational institutions (PhD Executive Order), currently Executive Order no. 1039 of 27/08/2013:

  • Implementation of an independent research project under supervision (the PhD project).
  • Completing PhD courses or other similar educational elements comprising the equivalent of approx. 30 ECTS credits.
  • Participation in active research environments, including stays at other, primarily foreign, research institutions, private research companies, etc.
  • Obtaining experience with teaching activities or other forms of knowledge dissemination related to the PhD project in question.
  • Preparation of a PhD thesis based on the PhD project.

Qualifications
Applicants must have a relevant master's degree or equivalent qualification.

You are required to be enterprising and to possess good communication skills and to be a visible, involved participant in the department’s daily activities, in addition to being willing to engage in disciplinary and interdisciplinary collaboration across the department.

  • The project description and schedule for the PhD project - 5-8 pages
  • Quality and relevance of the methodological and theoretical choices
  • Consistency and coherence between the project and the choice of method and theory
  • Relevance of the project to the profile of the Doctoral School
  • Ability to complete the PhD project
  • Educational qualifications and any additional professional qualifications, e.g. relevant professional experience and publications

Terms of employment
This is a full-time position, reporting to the head of department, Anders Siig Andersen.

The position will be filled according to the Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) and Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities.

After the deadline for applications the Head of Department will shortlist applicants for assessment with assistance from the recruitment committee including the chairperson of the assessment committee. Shortly after the application deadline all applicants will be notified whether or not their application has been selected for assessment.

The shortlisted applicants will be informed about the composition of the assessment committee, and each applicant will be given the opportunity to comment on the composition of the committee and - later on - their assessment.
