Salary: £38,183 to £46,924 per annum (pro-rata if applicable) depending on skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.

The University is heavily investing in the fields of electrification and future propulsion through the Propulsion Futures Beacon of Excellence. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly qualified and experienced technician who will play a key role in the establishment and subsequent management of unique, multi-MW facilities for electrified propulsion technologies development and testing.

This post includes the following responsibilities:

  • In the initial years of the appointment the role-holder will set-up, direct and chair a working group that will perform all the design, setting-up, procurement, building and infrastructure integration and commissioning of the proposed facilities. They will work with individuals, engineers and designers from different Research Groups that are stake-holders in the Beacon activity, and will ensure the timely delivery of the proposed facilities and report regularly and frequently on the progress.
  • Once facilities are fully commissioned, the role holder will manage and provide technical support for research and development, maintenance and general running of those facilities. The role holder will set up processes and procedures for the efficient and effective every day running of the facilities, booking and usage processes, health and safety measures, maintenance schedules and training of users.
  • Throughout the five-year duration of the post, the role-holder will be responsible for all the documentation, reporting and financial monitoring related to the proposed facilities. They will work with the relevant technical support teams in the Faculty of Engineering to ensure that the proposed facilities become a sustainable asset for the University and ensure the success of the Beacon according to the appropriate KPIs.

This full-time post is fixed-term for a period of 5 years. Job share arrangements may be considered for this post.
