UCD Post-Doctoral Research Fellow Level 1

University College Dublin - UCD College of Science

School: UCD School of Computer Science

Applications are invited for a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in the UCD School of Computer Science. This is a temporary post.

Growth in food production is not matching growth in global population – the world needs new ways of producing more food to meet this massive demand. UCD together with Origin Enterprises Plc have recently established a new research programme, CONSUS, focussed on the application of precision agriculture to crop production with a particular emphasis on optimisation of agri-food production systems leading to more efficient food production with lower environmental impacts.

The Researcher will contribute to the research, design and implementation of an intelligent data management approach for the conflation of disparate data streams, and the inclusion of data in the CONSUS Data Warehouse. The researcher will particularly focus on data, including field trials data, pertaining to Crop Establishment, Soil Nutrition and Crop Diseases. The researcher will utilise her/his agronomic expertise to understand, assess and analyse the data and will support ICT related researchers in similar activities. In close collaboration with Agronomic researchers, the postdoctoral researcher will also contribute to the development and assessment of models pertaining to crop, soil and meteorological interactions.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic research environment and will actively contribute to exciting and cutting edge multi-disciplinary research. Experience gained in this post will significantly further the career development and training of the successful candidate.
