Research Technician

University of Exeter - College Operations - Technical Services

This full-time post is available from 16th July 2018, on a fixed term basis for 2 years.

The successful applicant will provide technical support for a research projects in applied fungal biology. The aim is to assist with studies on plant pathogens and their infection strategies. The work to be undertaken includes basic molecular technology techniques (e.g. Southern, PCR, transformation), culturing plant pathogenic fungi, plant inoculation and general fungal microbiology work. Training and supervision will be provided.

This opportunity is suitable for those with a degree or experience in biological sciences. Previous experience with molecular or microbiology techniques, and particularly with fungi would be very beneficial. You should be confident with a good background knowledge of the discipline and molecular techniques. Good communication/ interpersonal skills are essential, as is the ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.
