Purpose of Post

The Technical Services Group in Computing and Information Services (CIS) is responsible for the management and development of distributed computing services to support Durham University in delivering world class teaching and research.

As a senior member of the team providing support for the University's private cloud infrastructure, the technical specialist will be responsible for the effective full service lifecycle operation and management of cloud services for the University, covering staff and students. The post holder will have responsibility for architecting the design and overseeing the build, configuration, and support of cloud services to meet the existing and future business needs of the University.

The role holder will manage our current and legacy infrastructure – currently comprising a small amount of physical hardware Citrix XenServer with a significant amount of vmWare vSphere 5.5 and Microsoft Hyper-V 2012.  The role will involve examining our existing tasks and processes and looking to automate them using System Center Orchestrator. A demonstrable experience of customer service delivery is expected, and to provide quality assurance on technical specifications as delegated by the team leader.
