This is an exciting opportunity to support the work of Universities UK International (UUKi) as a member of the Policy team. The post holder will be UUKi’s principal policy expert and first contact point regarding the UK higher education sector’s interests and activities in Sub-Saharan Africa and will enhance capacity to respond to international development agendas.

With a graduate or post-graduate qualification, you will be a motivated, independent worker with a keen interest in higher education or international development policy. Working with the Head of International Engagement, you will be tasked with providing high quality advice, developing and maintaining strong relationships with the sector and policy makers, and using UK and overseas contacts to influence policy and support the sector on relevant issues. You will provide the secretariat function for UUKi’s national Network of UK university staff managing engagement with Sub-Saharan Africa, including organising twice-yearly meetings. The role will also support delivery in relation to UUKi’s role in the Strategic Partnerships for Higher Education Innovation and Reform (SPHEIR) programme, funded by the Department for International Development.

The post holder will have a principal role in delivering UUKi’s work in relation to sub-Saharan Africa. In practice this will include monitoring and reporting on developments in international and domestic policy, developing and maintaining a network of stakeholders in the UK university sector, partner organisations and policy makers. The post holder will be supported in the performance of their responsibilities by the Head of International Engagement and senior members of UUKi’s Policy Team and will work closely with other regional policy leads and the Communications and Partnerships teams as appropriate.
