About Artslink International Education:

Founded in 2009, Artslink International Education Centre is one of the foremost private providers of art & design education in eastern China, preparing students to study at the world’s top overseas art & design universities. Through delivery of foundation & pre-masters courses, portfolio development courses and summer schools, Artslink has provided comprehensive creative arts education to exceptional young Chinese talents for close to 10 years.

We are seeking to appoint a PGCE-certified teacher of art & design to become Course Director for the Centre’s Foundation and Pre-Masters preparatory courses, based at Artslink’s Shanghai Centre.

Main responsibilities:

  • To provide effective delivery of the courses through the provision of teaching, management and coordination of academic and technical resources.
  • To provide academic leadership for the courses ensuring that the curriculums are developed and extended in response to contemporary practice (pedagogic and professional), issues and debates.
  • To lead and manage assessment of the courses and ensure continuous improvement of the quality, effectiveness and efficiency of the provision.
  • To oversee curriculum development of the courses and ensure continuous improvement of the quality, effectiveness and efficiency of the provision.
  • To maintain and develop appropriate links e.g. with overseas educational institutions, developing and promoting the Centre’s objectives in terms of progression to Bachelor or Master-level higher education.
  • To line manage members of staff within the course teams, providing feedback and suggestions for further professional development where applicable.
  • To produce academic monitoring reports and any other reports as may be necessary to meet the requirements of internal and external quality assurance.
  • To participate when required in the Centre’s marketing initiatives, including Open Days, school visits, exhibitions and recruitment fairs as requested by the Centre Director.
  • To assist, when requested, with the delivery of the Centre’s other provision (including summer schools).
  • To undertake standardisation and training visits to the Centre’s partners when necessary.

Person specification:

Essential:

  • BA (Hons) in an art & design discipline, with prior experience of studying an Art & Design Foundation Diploma
  • PGCE or equivalent
  • Ideally 3-5 years teaching experience
  • Experience of professional practice within an art & design discipline
  • Proven ability to work in a team
  • High level written and oral communication skills
  • Pedagogic skills for the development of effective learners
  • Enthusiasm for education and an educational environment
  • Experience of academic management and administration within a further or higher education context

Desirable:

  • Appropriate MA in an art & design discipline
  • Experience working in an international environment and/or with students for whom English is a second language
  • Experience teaching students from mainland China and/or experience travelling to the region previously

Compensation and benefits:

  • Annual salary (before tax) between £28,000 - £40,000 (250,000 – 360,000 RMB) dependent on experience
  • One free return airfare between China and your home country per year
  • Accommodation subsidy of 2,000 RMB/month and assistance in finding suitable private accommodation in Shanghai
  • Annual medical insurance
  • Residence permit

The successful candidate will be required to undertake a full criminal record check and basic health examination prior to commencing the role as part of the application for a Chinese work visa.
