Web and Communications Officer

Applications are invited for a Web and Communications Officer to work in the Department of Computing. In this post, you will ensure the timely and efficient provision of all necessary support for web and outreach within the Department.  As well as maintaining the website and media presence, you will be expected to assume responsibility for the accurate completion of a wide range of tasks, thus acquiring both a level of practical expertise and the ability to advise on web-related matters, ensuring continuity in the Department when any changes occur to academic and administrative roles.

You will be responsible for maintaining and producing our departmental web pages and ensuring that the website always look professional.  As well as designing and delivering the Department’s social media strategy, you will work with technical web development staff to offer new web content and services.  In addition, you will provide support for the Directors of Research, Teaching and Outreach on communications and outreach initiatives and activities and act as the departmental contact for communications, outreach and web activities.

The ideal candidate will be educated to degree level or equivalent standard and will have the following attributes:

  • Experience in web technologies, including content management systems, HTML, Javascript, Dreamweaver, Linux and web services, together with strong IT skills
  • Experience of working to deadlines and under pressure
  • Experience in writing for and maintaining websites, with the ability to produce concise written and web-based material for a range of people
  • You must work effectively as part of a team and, equally, be self-motivated and able to work on your own initiative
