Professor of Cardiovascular Biology

University of Hull - Centre for Cardiovascular and Metabolic Research

Faculty/Area: Hull York Medical School

The Hull York Medical School is a young, exciting and vibrant medical school, based in two well-established universities, in the attractive and historic cities of Hull and York. Since opening in 2003, we have aimed to provide a nationally leading and internationally known medical education programme that produces high quality doctors who are also equipped to be professional and academic leaders and managers. Through promoting students’ interest and involvement in research we also seek to inspire the next generation of biomedical and clinical academics. In REF 2014, over 85% of our research was assessed as world leading or internationally excellent.

The Medical School is now at a crucial phase of its development and we are seeking to make a significant expansion of research capacity and international excellence in the biomedical sciences on the Hull site. To facilitate this, we wish to appoint two outstanding biomedical scientists to join the Centre for Atherothrombosis and Metabolic Disease (CAM) at Professorial level. CAM is a research centre whose mission is to generate new knowledge and understanding of the biochemical, molecular and cellular mechanisms that contribute to the development of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases and translate these findings into clinical benefits. It is envisaged that one of these posts will also be appointed as the Head of CAM.

As well as pursuing their own research programme, both appointees will provide vision, leadership, mentorship, experience and enthusiasm to build on current strengths in maintaining and developing a leading research presence. We wish to expand our capacity in our two major areas of focus: the first in the field of cardiovascular biology to complement our expertise in the area of platelet biology; the second in the area of metabolism, where we have special strengths in the exploration of biological mechanisms underlying metabolic disorders.

These posts will play a key role in our development of internationally competitive research programmes at the Hull York Medical School. Candidates with internationally recognised accomplishments in research, sustained funding, and leadership experience are encouraged to apply.
