Rail/Transit Systems Engineer

Main functions

  • Know, respect and apply SENER’s philosophy and fundamental values, organizational and operating principles, standards and procedures.
  • Understand client’s requirements and assess documentation to ensure that a compliant solution is designed and/or implemented utilizing industry best practices.
  • Develop and deliver proposals and documents related to bid/tendering processes.
  • Develop design and lead/manage/produce and deliver design documents.
  • Deliver assigned tasks in accordance with the requirements and scope, within the agreed timescales and budgeted costs, in accordance with Company’s quality standards and procedures and all applicable legal requirements.
  • Provide relevant inputs to other disciplines and functions.


  • Monitor the status of the work and provide guidance to more junior engineers and to drafters.
  • Interface and co-ordinate (discuss and agree scope, meet, lead discussions, make presentations, etc.) with other engineering disciplines.
  • Ideally 10 to 15 years’ experience in either:
    • Signaling and Control (PTC (Positive Train Control), CBTC (Communications-Based Train Control)).
    • Communications Systems.
    • Electrification (Traction, OCS, etc.).
    • Systems Integration.
  • Familiarity with AREMA standards and FRA and FTA standards.
  • Desirable knowledge of CENELEC standards (EN 50126, EN 50128, EN 50129).
  • Degree in engineering (Bachelor or equivalent, as a minimum).
  • Desirable experience in railways/transit operation and maintenance.
  • Established relationships with California rail/transit authorities or operators are highly appreciated.
  • Legally able to work in US. Otherwise, hiring is subject to obtaining the visa (supported by SENER).
  • Licensed PE in California. Otherwise, commitment to obtain the license as soon as possible is required.
  • Able to develop plans, specifications, technical notes & calculations, etc.
  • Ability to develop non-standard solutions.
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplined team.
  • Willingness to learn, develop and apply new techniques, standards and processes.
  • Willingness to take on additional tasks as needed.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and technical writing skills.
  • Excellent organizational, time management and problem solving skills.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Business fluency in English, both written and verbal.
