About the Role

Reporting to the Senior Health and Safety Adviser/Auditor, this is a key post in the University Health and Safety Service (HSS), involving the provision of frontline health and safety (H&S) services in two specialist areas; biosafety and chemical safety. In addition, the post-holder will provide the lead on general health and safety services for the Faculty of Science.

The post-holder will also play an important part in developing standards and the provision of training, as well as taking responsibility for specific elements of the HSS proactive workload. This health and safety role requires excellent communications and organisational skills, combined with an exemplary professional approach.

The post-holder will be expected to contribute to all areas of the work of the HSS and will have direct delegated authority to stop unsafe practices across the University.

The working week will primarily be Monday to Friday, but may include ad-hoc evening and weekend working, as business demands.

The post-holder will have a background in laboratory-based biological or chemical research, who can demonstrate a direct involvement with, and experience of, biological or chemical safety systems and processes.
