Communications Officer for AHRC

Queen's University Belfast - Research Initiative

Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and Queen’s University Belfast.

Working remotely from any part of the UK, the post holder will develop and implement the communication strategy for Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) Modern Languages research, with a particular emphasis on the Open World Research Initiative (OWRI), a flagship programme in Modern Languages with four major funded projects.

The post holder will be required to travel frequently to meet with the Principal Investigators (lead researchers) of the four OWRI projects, which are based in Oxford, Cambridge, London and Manchester, and with the AHRC Modern Languages Leadership Fellow who is based in Queen’s, Belfast. There will also be travel for collaboration with OWRI partner institutions across the UK and with the Communications and Literature and Languages teams at the AHRC in Swindon.

Although working remotely, the post holder will be an employee of Queen’s University Belfast and will be line-managed by the Leadership Fellow with a dotted-line into the Head of Communications at the AHRC.

This full time position is available until 28 February 2020 in the first instance. (0.8 FTE will also be considered)

The successful candidate must have:

  • A degree in a relevant subject
  • A minimum of four years relevant employment experience in a press, PR or communications role
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate information with clarity and accuracy and write papers, news releases, reports and complex correspondence
  • Experience of working with social media and an understanding of how content works across digital platforms
  • Experience of working with local, national and international media and an ability to develop high quality working relationships with the media
  • Willingness to travel frequently. Willingness to work outside normal working hours on occasion
