Lecturer/Senior Lecturer

Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine - Department of Vector Biology

The Department of Vector Biology is looking for either a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer to strengthen the clinical and biological sciences research and teaching agenda.

The Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for research in tropical diseases.  Through the creation of effective links with governments, organisations and institutions and by responding to the health needs of communities, LSTM aims to promote improved health, particularly for people of the less developed/resource poorest countries in the tropics and sub-tropics.

To support this continued success, the Faculty of Biological Science is seeking an experienced bioinformatician to strengthen our clinical and biological sciences research and our teaching agenda. A key cross-cutting theme of LSTM is the genomic analysis of resistance: in vector, parasite and bacterial evolution.  The appointee would be required to apply and develop analytical approaches to interrogate genomic data from across the spectrum of disease-relevant tax a to identify resistance-associated strains and variants. There will be extensive opportunities to collaborate with a multidisciplinary faculty of epidemiologists, modellers, bioinformaticians and molecular biologists working on a range of real world problems - providing exciting opportunities for impact and career development.  LSTM’s expertise in translational research will afford a unique opportunity for hypothesis-driven research in an epidemiological context.

Applicants can be either clinical or non-clinical, and will have a postgraduate qualification in genomics/biostatistics/statistical genetics and/or relevant experience in bioinformatics research.   The appointment is initially fixed term of three and a half years but suitably qualified candidates may have the opportunity to enrol on our career track pathway that could lead to a substantive contract if pre-agreed targets are met. This post will be considered under the Career Track Scheme for further details please email the Director of HR: Christine.greenway@lstmed.ac.uk
