Deputy Faculty Tutor

The appointment will be on UCL Grade 9. The salary range will be £55,163-£59,981 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.

The Joint Faculty Office serves the management and administration of UCL’s Faculty of the Arts and Humanities and the Faculty of the Social and Historical Sciences. (For the purposes of this role, this includes UCL’s School of Slavonic and East European Studies.)  The Faculty Office’s student team of currently five, led by the Joint Faculty Tutor, provides education leadership and student/learning and teaching administration for the faculties’ 19 academic departments and over 9,000 students.

The remit of the Deputy Faculty tutor is to work closely with the Faculty Tutor, to provide him with senior-level strategic and administrative support on academic management issues, and to share parts of the Faculty Tutor portfolio. The Deputy Faculty Tutor frequently works as the Faculty Tutor’s delegate and deputises in his absence. This involves independent decisions, determining the faculties’ stated position on matters within the Faculty Tutor’s and Deputy Faculty Tutor’s remit, and granting or denying of faculty approval in various approval matters. In particular, the Deputy Faculty Tutor is responsible for quality assurance and faculty teaching administration.

The successful candidate will be educated to first degree level. They will have awareness of current issues in Higher Education and Higher Education administration, including external quality assurance systems, understanding of the assessment processes and equality and diversity issues as they relate to students. Strong communication, analytical and problem-solving skills are essential, along with the ability to manage change and to champion changes to systems and processes.
