A Research Fellow position is linked to the EU MAMI (Measurement and Architecture for a Middleboxed Internet) Project is sought to work at the University of Aberdeen.

Researchers at Aberdeen University are a part of MAMI, 30 month EU H2020 project led by ETH Zürich designed to re-architect the Internet do that it allows explicit cooperation between the networking equipment enabling appropriate in-network services to ease management and scalability of ever more demanding applications. We aim to restore balance among end-user privacy concerns in the face of pervasive surveillance, innovation in network protocols in the face of increasing ossification, and the provision of in-network functionality in a cooperative way. Aberdeen's work will develop innovative tools to measure Internet performance and research new algorithms and methods to solve the network problems.

Applicants must have a PhD degree (or near completion) in Electronic Engineering or Computer Science.

Detailed knowledge of transport protocols within the Internet protocol stack is required, together with understanding of network protocols. Experience with evaluating Internet protocol behaviour is essential. Experience using appropriate programming languages together with experience of either testing of network performance or simulation of transport protocols in ns2 (or ns3).

Fluency in written and spoken English is essential for this style of EU project to support collaboration with other researchers. The candidate must also be willing to travel (e.g., to attend quarterly progress meetings, demonstrations of to present their work at conferences/workshops). Travel is expected to be mostly within Europe.

Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 6 (£31,656 - £37,768 per annum) salary scale and negotiable with placement according to qualifications and experience.

Consideration will be given to making an appointment at Research Assistant, Grade 5 level in the first instance (£26,829 - £30,175 per annum) for individuals in the final stages of completing their PhD.

As this post is funded by the European Commission it will be available until 30 June 2018.
