Duties/Responsibilities:

The Faculty of Arts seeks to appoint a Senior Teaching Fellow as Director of Student Experience and Progression (Student Lifecycle).

We are looking for applicants with a strong vision, commitment, and track record in the design, development and implementation of academic strategies to support the Arts and Humanities taught student lifecycle (from applicant to student and on to alumnus).

Working closely with academic departments, staff student liaison committees and relevant central service departments, the successful candidate will help to develop a Faculty-wide integrated student lifecycle support strategy and provide academic leadership and coordination for a series of projects.

The post holder will work as part of an emerging team of two Faculty DSEPs. One post will focus on the student experience with regard to Employability and Alumni and the other specifically on aspects to do with the Student Lifecycle.

Skills/Experience required:

  • A good honours degree and possession of a PhD or equivalent in a relevant Arts and Humanities discipline.
  • An understanding of the national policy relating to teaching in Higher Education and the forthcoming Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF).
  • A demonstrable understanding of the wider student experience particularly in relation to the student lifecycle.
  • Relevant experience of academic project leadership and development in the area of the student.

  • Familiarity with a variety of strategies to promote and assess learning.
  • Evidence of a capability to monitor and assess undergraduate student progression as well as to personally communicate feedback to students.
  • Evidence of teaching excellence.
  • Evidence of engagement in continuous professional development.
  • Understanding of equal opportunity issues as they may impact on areas of teaching.
