Guangdong University of Foreign Studies

Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS) is a major internationalized university in South China for its global-minded faculty/students and its research on international languages, literature, culture, trade and strategic studies.

Dating back to 1965 when the Guangzhou Institute of Foreign Languages was established and 1980 when the Guangzhou Institute of Foreign Trade was founded, the University had its present form by merging the two in 1995, with the Guangdong College of Finance and Economics incorporated into the University in 2008. The University has four campuses: Baiyun Campus, Panyu Campus, Dalang Campus and Huangpu Campus, with a total area of 163 hectares.

The University upholds the motto of "Pursuit of Integrity, Practice and Cross-cultural Learning" and defines as its mission the education of high-caliber citizens through the integration of content studies and foreign language training for globally minded graduates with international vision and social responsibility. With a teaching staff of 2047, among whom 55.88% are full or associate professors and nearly 100 are long-term international teachers, the University offers 67 undergraduate majors which fall into 8 disciplines, namely Literature, Economics, Management, Law, Engineering, Science, Education and Art. The University serves nearly 20,000 full-time undergraduates and over 3,500 graduate students and over 23,000 international and continuing-education students. With 28 foreign languages available, GDUFS is the only one in South China that offers the greatest variety of foreign language programs.

GDUFS has 22 national first-class undergraduate major construction bases, which ranks 1st in universities and colleges of foreign trade, 2nd in universities and colleges of foreign languages and 1st in provincial universities and colleges in Guangdong Province. The University owns 2 post-doctoral research stations, 2 first-level discipline doctoral programs, 18 second-level discipline doctoral programs, 12 first-level discipline master programs, 54 second-level discipline master programs and 11 professional degree master programs. It is one of the institutions in United Nations High-end Translation Talent Training University Outreach Program, member of CIUTI, associate member of FIT, founding member of WITTA, and the only foreign language university in the CAMPUS Asia program.

GDUFS attaches great importance to, and actively conducts academic and cultural exchanges with overseas institutions. At present, it has established links with 465 universities, academic institutions or cultural organizations in 58 countries and regions. The University has co-established six Confucius Institutes overseas in Japan, Russia, Peru, Cape Verde, Egypt and Portugal.

GDUFS boasts a diverse academic environment with more than 300 long-term and short-term international faculty coming from 34 countries and regions around the world. The university provides good career development platform for international faculty and is one of the first university in China that awards academic titles to international scholars.
