The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) was founded in 1828 as the ‘Institution for the diffusion of Knowledge’. In 2015, the University announced a £200 million Campus Masterplan development. The delivery of the first phase, including new buildings, green spaces, class-leading technologies and infrastructure has now moved from a planning phase to development. Today we have a staff and student community approaching 38,000.
UCLan is estimated to be amongst the top 3.7% of all worldwide universities - Centre for World University Rankings 2016 (CWUR) and was the UK’s first modern university to get into the QS World University Rankings.
We are a truly international university with global reach and ambition; we have students from over 100 countries and have partnerships with 125 international institutions across the world. In 2012 UCLan Cyprus established the First British University in Cyprus and is recognised locally and internationally for its distinctive approach to university education.
In a recent Capita Staff Survey, UCLan was awarded 'Employer of Choice' status and were ranked as one of the top 25 (Public Sector) companies to work for.
We believe in establishing collaborate partnerships, marrying academic excellence with applied business research, entrepreneurship and innovation. Our Research is crucial to the economic and social development of society; whether it’s devising a blood test to detect brain tumours or uncovering a potential cause of Alzheimer’s, UCLan’s research is life changing.
We are proud to have been transforming lives since 1828.
