The Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering at Qatar University is a leading department in the region and the only department in Qatar offering a higher education undergraduate program in Civil Engineering. The undergraduate program in Civil Engineering was reaccredited in 2017 by ABET which ensures that the program meets the standard and quality needed by the Civil Engineering profession. The Department has 17 Faculty and 7 teaching assistants. The Department has about 400 undergraduate students and more than 30 Master and PhD students.
The Department has a strong research portfolio. This is characterized by the high quality output publications that results from research projects funded by the university, Qatar National Research Funds (QNRF) and the industry. The Department currently has research grants of approximate value of 15 Million US Dollar. The Department has collaboration with the key Industry in Qatar such as with Ashghal, Qatar Rail and benefits from industrial chair funded by QD-SBG.
The Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering has strong interaction with the local community and is strongly supporting outreach activities. Academic staff are always encouraged to provide their expertise for consultancies. The Department also strongly interacts with schools and supports a number of events and competitions to highlight civil engineering for high school students and to attract them to consider civil engineering as their future career.
