Welcome to the School of Languages, Linguistics and Film at Queen Mary University of London.
At Queen Mary, we believe that a diversity of ideas helps us achieve the previously unthinkable.Throughout our history, we’ve fostered social justice and improved lives through academic excellence. And we continue to live and breathe this spirit today, not because it’s simply ‘the right thing to do’ but for what it helps us achieve and the intellectual brilliance it delivers.
Our reformer heritage informs our conviction that great ideas can and should come from anywhere. It’s an approach that has brought results across the globe, from the communities of east London to the favelas of Rio de Janeiro.
We continue to embrace diversity of thought and opinion in everything we do, in the belief that when views collide, disciplines interact, and perspectives intersect, truly original thought takes form.
We are one of UK’s leading global universities, highly rated for teaching and learning, research and innovation, and wide-ranging public engagement. We are a Russell Group University, situated in the heart of the East End of London, with a history dating back to 1785 and with staff and students from over 160 countries. We have a strong reputation for disciplinary and multi-disciplinary excellence, attracting world-leading staff, high-quality students and generating extensive relationships with local, national and international leading organisations.
The School of Languages, Linguistics & Film is the largest in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and comprises the departments of Modern Languages and Cultures, Linguistics, Film Studies, Comparative Literature and the Language Centre. Our work has a global reach and we foster an environment that supports and enables thinking across national, linguistic and other boundaries on a range of topics that relate to the literary, the visual, the social and much more.
In the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures, we seek a Lecturer in French, a Lecturer in German and Comparative Cultural Studies and a Lecturer in Russian. In the Department of Linguistics, we seek a Lecturer in Sociolinguistics. These staff will contribute significantly to the research environment, teaching excellence, and will promote Queen Mary’s core values: inclusive, proud, ambitious, collegial and ethical.
