Cheltenham, Gloucestershire

Are you looking for new ways to use your knowledge, and unique challenges to stretch your intellectual ability? Then your love of mathematics and problem solving could see you playing a vital role in maintaining national security.

GCHQ is one of the few places outside academia where you can practice advanced mathematical research across a wide range of disciplines, and use academic theory to solve real-world problems. As one of our mathematicians, you'll explore the increasingly complex problems involved in finding threats and keeping our communications secure.

Every day will bring a new challenge to stretch your intellectual ability. Your research will be supported by some of Europe’s largest computers. And you’ll share - and grow - your knowledge with some of the nation’s top mathematical minds. The solutions you develop will influence decisions made by Government, the armed forces and law enforcement agencies.

You can develop your expertise in a number of areas, from cryptographic design and evaluation, to network modelling and routing analysis.

Whatever you decide to do, you’ll benefit from our ongoing support and continuous professional development. We have a full training programme in all the areas of mathematics we use, which is accredited by the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA) at a level leading to the Chartered Mathematician qualification.

To join us you should have, or expect to obtain, a 1st or 2:1 honours degree in mathematics, statistics, physics or other subject with a significant mathematical content.
