Fixed Term Contract for 3 Years (1 October 2013 to 30 September 2016)
This is an exciting opportunity to work on a major new project on French Theatre of the Napoleonic Era, funded by the AHRC. You will assist the project investigator (PI) Dr Katherine Astbury in the successful execution of the project, undertaking original research to explore music in theatre during this significant period. You will explore how musical theatre evolves, contributing to a project that aims to transform our understanding of theatre of the Napoleonic era by examining the extent to which the traditions, themes, aesthetics, morality of the Ancien Régime and/or the Revolution are perpetuated or modified in theatrical texts, scores and performances during the early years of the 19th century.
Your research will address some of the gaps in existing histories of music and theatre and will involve time working in archives in France. There is scope within this project for you to develop your own research themes within the bounds of the project.
You will have a PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant field and will have experience of conducting archival research and analysis of musical scores. You will also have a developing profile of research publications, administrative experience or capabilities and a commitment to working with theatre practitioners and musicians to develop our understanding of performance of theatre of the period.
Informal enquiries to Dr Katherine Astbury, Department of French Studies, University of Warwick. Katherine.Astbury@warwick.ac.uk.
More information about the project can be found on the project website http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/fac/arts/french/research/napoleonictheatre/
