Hunan University was formed from the Yuelu Academy, which was founded in 976 AD. It is known as the ‘Millenarian Academy, Centennial University’, and is affiliated with the Chinese Ministry of Education. The University has maintained its traditional culture and famously high standards in education, from the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties to the modern day.
Today’s Hunan University is a modern research university, with strong academic links to 140 universities and research institutes across the world. More than 300 experts come to the University every year, along with approximately 1,000 overseas students from over 40 countries. The University has also helped establish the highest number of overseas Confucius Institutes in the province: Colorado State University, University of Regina and Honam University.
