Postdoctoral Research Associate in Early Medieval Archaeology

This role is part-time (22.5 hours) and fixed term for 10 months only.

The postholder, under the supervision of Professor Sarah Semple, will be a Research Associate in the Department of Archaeology at Durham University working to support key early medieval research projects, field initiatives and grant applications. They will be responsible for completing and bringing to publication, a series of field-related reports on aspects of early medieval archaeology in Britain. In addition, they will offer research and GIS support to the on-going research programmes People and Place: The Making of the Kingdom of Northumbria (Leverhulme 2015-18) and Worked in Stone: Completing the Corpus of Anglo-Saxon Stone Sculpture (Arts and Humanities Research Council 2018-20), and will assist with data collection in eastern England for the latter. They will also be responsible for planning, implementing and project managing a number of pilot field projects in Northumberland in 2018, and developing grant applications to support the consolidation and further expansion of these field initiatives in future years.
