Financial Controller

Buckinghamshire New University

About the role

This is an exciting time to join Bucks New University as we transform the way we do business and provide a high quality student experience. This role is part of that change and is a relatively new position within a restructured Finance team. You will lead on all key financial processes and operations across the University and its various locations, providing key financial information to a variety of stakeholders and ensuring financial compliance for the organisation. Leading a team of nine staff, one of the main purposes of the job is to ensure we have in place robust financial procedures, policies and controls and to make the best use of the new financial system implemented in August. This will include more integrated and streamlined reporting as we deliver the benefits from the investment in the system and team.

Within the Finance department, you will be responsible for the management of financial operations, the procurement team, all statutory reporting and returns and the finance system covering all University activities, investments and linked companies across our various locations – three campuses, a conference centre and our activities delivered through partners.

We have exciting plans in place to truly improve the way we do business and we’d like you to be part of that change with opportunities to gain development and participate at the highest levels of management and governance at the University.

About you

Educated to degree level or equivalent is essential as well as having a CCAB Professional Qualification. You’ll have substantial experience of financial systems, reporting and analysis including preparation of audited financial statements. Meanwhile, your sound knowledge and understanding of appropriate authorisation and control structures in a large and complex organisation will set you apart, as will your desire to lead and make a difference to your team and the wider University.
