About the role

Funded by a British Academy grant entitled “Learning to write with the eyes: Solving the Midas touch problem”. The project aims to understand novel ways to interact with computer-interfaces. As the applications of gaze-control keep growing, either in the context of AR or assistive technology, we still know little of the cognitive, motor, and visual mechanisms that are implicated. By using state-of-the-art eye tracking, we will test eye movement learning in an eye-writing task and how adaptive changes in eye movement control transfer to other tasks.

The role will involve pre-registration of the study to comply with open science standards, setting up and carrying out experiments using eye-tracking, to some extent analysing the data, and contributing to the writing up of the results. The project will involve a collaboration with Prof Kevin Paterson and Dr Claire Hutchinson within the Neuroscience, Psychology and Behaviour department at Leicester.

About you

The successful candidate will have at least a BSc in Psychology, Neuroscience or a related discipline and demonstrate experience of conducting eye-tracking experiments in a laboratory setting. You will show excellent organisational skills and enthusiasm for the topic. Experience with eye movement data analysis is desirable.

Additional information
The contract is part-time (0.6 FTE) and fixed-term. Funding is available for 6 months from 1 July 2018.
