The Language Centre

The Language Centre sits in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities and currently delivers core language provision for three degree programmes: BA International Communications, BA International Studies, and BA International Business (with Chinese, French, German, Spanish, Japanese, or Korean), as well as MA International Communications and MA Interpreting and Translation. The Language Centre also delivers optional language modules that are taken university wide by students on a wide range of degree programmes. In addition to this the Language Centre is also developing a commercial evening class programme as well as Executive Education courses for target audiences.

Since its inception in 2005, the Language Centre has continued to grow significantly. At present, it caters for over 1,000 students.

Candidates must hold a Bachelor Degree (Master preferred) in a related field along with a Japanese language teaching qualification such as TJSL (Teaching Japanese as a second language) or a degree in language teaching. They must also have validate experience in Japanese language teaching in an English speaking institution ideally for 3 years. They must have the ability to teach Japanese language from beginner to advanced levels, be able to use digital tools effectively for teaching and administration and be competent in the use of effective communication and presentation skills in English.

The successful candidate will be expected to deliver Japanese language classes across all years of the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes; to develop resources to support independent learning, to contribute to our developing external activities, and to carry out administration and developmental activities in line with the strategic development of the Centre.

Salary will be within the range of RMB 236,721 – RMB 282,656 per annum depending on skills and experience (salary progression beyond this is subject to performance). In addition, an attractive package including accommodation allowance, travel allowance, and insurance will be provided for international appointments.

This post is available from 1 September 2018 and initially will be offered a one year fixed-term contract subject to renewal upon a satisfactory performance in the University of Nottingham Ningbo China. This contract may be extended on an indefinite basis by mutual agreement.
