This is a unique career defining opportunity to join the University of Exeter as our new Head of Library services. This high profile position offers the chance to shape the future strategic direction and leadership of Physical and Digital Library Services for an ambitious research-intensive Russell Group University.

Based within our Education and Student Support directorate the University Library service provides a crucial service for the learning and education of our students, and is critical to the delivery of our Research and Impact strategy. This has included a GBP 1.5m investment in 21st century library collections. Our library services truly enhance learning and digital research, and ultimately inspire individual growth by making academic resources abundantly and easily accessible to the students, researchers and wider community.

The opportunity

We are seeking a talented library professional with natural leadership abilities to play a pivotal role in driving forward our Library services strategy and operational excellence. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing direction to the Library to help deliver Exeter's research and education ambitions
  • Provision of ubiquitous services and solutions which connect people to knowledge, facilitate research and learning and catalyse new knowledge creation
  • Foster a culture of agility, innovation and appetite for change 
  • Help raise the internal and external profile of Exeter's Library as central to institutional success through the quality and innovation of its leadership
  • Leading and managing c.60 Library staff, and the Division's GBP 7m+ budget, within a University environment committed to LEAN working practice, cross-service collaboration and growth in student/academic numbers

About you

We are looking to recruit a highly motivated Head of Library who is passionate about and committed to providing innovative, high quality library services which are leading edge within the Higher Education / research environment. We require someone with a track record of success in student and academic engagement and ideally experience of strategic leadership and senior management (ideally in a University or equivalent complex organisation).
