The University of Essex International College has been set up by Kaplan International Pathways, in partnership with the University of Essex, to provide new routes for international students wishing to study degrees at the University. The University of Essex is ranked in the top 25 UK universities (Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018) and in addition to being one of the most international universities in Britain, it is also known for its bold approach to teaching, research and innovation. Located in the historic Constable Building on the University’s Colchester campus, the college will deliver undergraduate foundation, international year one and pre-Master’s programmes and a range of other support and extracurricular services.

The Role

We are looking for passionate teachers to join our academic team. The role will involve delivering modules in Maths and/or Statistics subject areas listed as well as Project modules. The role will be of particular interest to candidates with significant teaching experience, experience working with international students, facilitating learner centred learning and a demonstrable desire to see students achieve their goals. Being involved in the college from its inception will provide the right candidate with an exciting opportunity to influence and shape the student experience.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing subject-level expertise in Maths and/or Statistics to international students
  • Delivering learner-centred classes that incorporate Technology Enhanced Learning and provide differentiation between students
  • Assisting with production and quality assurance of module examinations and other forms of formative and summative assessment
  • Conducting, marking and providing feedback to students on summative assessments
  • Facilitating student’s access to and use of the College’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)
  • Maintaining an accurate, up-to-date record of student attendance and performance
  • Providing academic support to small groups of students as supervised self-study.
  • Participating in regular meetings and training with other staff

About You:

  • Bachelors degree in a subject related to Maths and/or Statistics
  • Significant teaching experience in at least one of the relevant subjects
  • Experience of working with international students
  • Ability to develop and update teaching material and preferably experience of working within a Virtual Learning Environment
  • Competence in teaching and administrative IT skills
  • Strong record-keeping skills
  • Experience of curriculum and assessment development within a UK higher education context.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work under pressure to deadlines.
  • Enthusiasm for your subject and an ability to inspire students to achieve.
  • Interest in integrating technology into teaching to enhance the student experience, including flipped learning and digital assessments
  • Ability to facilitate learner-centred learning in groups, teams, and individually using a range of tasks, activities and resources
  • Availability to commence employment in September 2019
