The Department of Aeronautical and Automotive Engineering has a number of University funded PhD studentships available to start in October 2018. We welcome applications from individuals who are interested in developing a PhD project based on the broad topics described below with a supervisor. UK/EU students are eligible to receive University funding although we welcome applications from any students who are able to self-fund and we may be able to provide a partial fee waiver for exceptional international candidates.
The Department’s research has a particular focus in the application areas of Intelligent Mobility and Autonomous Systems; Gas Turbine Combustion Systems, Vehicle Aerodynamics; Advanced Automotive Propulsion and Energy Storage with underpinning discipline strengths in control, structures and materials, risk and reliability, CFD and structural dynamics and acoustics.

Entry requirements: Applicants should have, or expect to achieve, at least a 2:1, and preferably a First Class, Honours degree (or equivalent) and in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or a related subject. Candidates should have good communication and team working skills.
Funding information: These projects are funded by Loughborough University and for UK/EU candidates, each includes a stipend of £14,777 per annum for 3 years and your tuition fees at the UK/EU rate will also be funded. In addition, you will have the opportunity to earn up to £1,800 per annum through teaching support.
