The Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities embraces the humanities, arts, education, environment and social sciences. It brings together a diverse range of subjects with a focus on the professions (including law, probation, education and construction-related areas), and social and economic transformation.
We are known for our exceptional teaching which gives students distinctive knowledge, skills, and attributes; for research which makes a real difference; for engagement that links the University to the city, region, and the world beyond; and for the quality of our services and professionalism. We offer cutting-edge teaching, research and knowledge transfer and strong partnerships in the public, voluntary and private sectors. We pride ourselves on delivering an outstanding experience that is informed, influenced and enriched by our relationships with industry, business, and the wider stakeholder community. Employability and social responsibility sit at the core of all we do, and we are committed to expanding each and every student’s horizons.
This is a great time to be joining our leadership team. As Deputy Dean, reporting to the PVC and deputising on all faculty-related matters, you will play a key role in enhancing teaching and research activities, managing human and financial resources and developing external networks.
This is a rare opportunity to take on a senior leadership role in a large and thriving faculty at a crucial point in its development. We are looking for an outstanding individual with a sustained track record in a relevant academic discipline, knowledge of this part of the HE sector, and a passion for the fast-paced and commercial environment in which we work.
