The project will introduce a new methodology for metamaterials based on near infrared emitting molecular metals, attachment to the surfaces and studies of their optical properties. The approach will use lanthanide metals with targeted to gold metasurfaces and patterned metamaterials to study the optical effect on the materials property.
It will provide training in synthetic chemistry, metal complexes, luminescence, surface characterisation and a number of optical techniques.
It is a collaborative project between the groups of Pikramenou (Chemistry) and Zhang (Physics) at the University of Birmingham.
