HR Manager (12-Month Maternity Cover)

The need for maternity cover within our HR team has opened up an exciting opportunity for a HR professional to join our team at the beginning of September.

The HR team at Kaplan International supports two global education businesses employing staff across teaching, operations, finance, marketing, IT, sales and customer service. From hourly paid teachers to commission-based sales staff, from C-level executives to subject matter experts in academic disciplines, the HR landscape at Kaplan International is truly diverse. Our head office is in West Kensington, London and our schools and colleges are located in 15 cities and towns across the UK. 

As the HR Manager, reporting to the Head of HR, you will:

  • provide sound, commercial and solutions-focused advice on the full range of HR issues, with particular expertise in employee relations
  • build successful working relationships across the business with managers and staff alike
  • act as a coach as well as an advisor, to managers on performance issues and conflict resolution
  • help managers to prevent, identify and remedy absence issues - where necessary, adopting a more hands-on approach
  • develop, review, update and implement HR policies according to compliance and business needs
  • drive forward our annual performance review and annual compensation process
  • work with colleagues to create and deliver appropriate training in order to build managers’ HR capabilities
  • advise, train and support on recruitment and selection
  • collaborate with managers on employee engagement in their teams, identifying and implementing where necessary appropriate measures to improve
  • advise on compensation and benefits
  • collaborate with HR colleagues on how to maximise efficiency and ROI from HR system (Workday)
  • work with our payroll colleagues to ensure an efficient, effective monthly process
  • travel to sites around the UK as required to meet staff, attend meetings and deputise for Head of HR

Candidate profile

Skills and experience

  • Excellent knowledge of UK employment law
  • Ability to implement and evaluate HR improvement
  • Strong employee relations and Union experience
  • Experience of influencing and coaching colleagues and managers
  • Excellent relationship management and consultative skills with an ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees
  • Strong coaching skills
  • Collegial approach with a strong desire to help others to achieve their objectives
  • High level of personal credibility with the courage to challenge when required
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent Excel, Word and PowerPointskills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Drive to deliver excellent results
  • Resilient and performs well under pressure
  • Payroll experience
  • Available to start in role at beginning of September

Qualifications

  • Relevant HR qualification
  • Preferably CIPD qualified
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
