The University of Surrey is an international university with a world-class teaching and research profile and an enterprising spirit. As a result of our new strategic plan and future vision an exciting opportunity has arisen within the School of Biosciences and Medicine for a Laboratory Manager to oversee the management of a newly refurbished Undergraduate Research laboratory where final year students will undertake research projects in a variety of specialisms from across the School; microbiological, biochemical, nutritional and medical.
The post holder will be expected to run this large laboratory safely and professionally enabling students to work independently and also to develop and deliver lab-based training classes that cover many core biosciences techniques and complement the wide-ranging technical needs of the students. Applicants should be able to demonstrate exceptional organisational skills and to work effectively with senior academic staff.
The ideal candidate will be a dynamic, forward-thinking team player with a ‘can do’ attitude and an ability to communicate clearly, contributing to our excellent student experience.
Successful applicants will have strong, diverse laboratory skills and may have a PhD in a relevant subject area. They will be confident in running and maintaining a high quality teaching laboratory with the ability to support students with their independent project work.
In return we can offer an energetic and aspirational working environment, exceptional leisure facilities on campus and substantial opportunities for staff development.
