The Department seeks to appoint a Health, Safety and Laboratory Co-ordinator to support activity at Chelsea and Westminster Campus. Although, mainly based at the Chelsea and Westminster campus, occasional travel to other campuses may be necessary, for example to conduct inductions as required. The post holder will organise and conduct day-to-day maintenance of laboratory facilities, core equipment, and support the purchase of general consumables undertake general laboratory management duties in the Section of Anaesthetics, Pain Medicine and Intensive Care (APMIC) and the sections of the Division of Surgery and the IRDB at the C&W Campus. The post holder will liaise with the Departmental Health, Safety and Compliance Manager and with the Faculty Safety Advisor in carrying out of the duties of the post.
The main laboratory management responsibilities will include day-to-day maintenance of laboratory facilities, core equipment, assisting with purchase of general consumables and dealing with general duties while ensuring compliance with Health & Safety regulations within both Divisions laboratories and office accommodation at the Chelsea and Westminster campus. The post holder will be expected to lead in the teaching, supervision and training of staff and students in local laboratory procedures. They will be expected to operate independently in organising and planning their work activities with the objective of maintaining and improving safety and efficiency in the laboratories.
The post holder should hold a life sciences degree (BSc or equivalent). You will have experience of working with biological materials at containment level 2 as well as knowledge of health and safety policies and procedures. You will have excellent communication and laboratory skills, as well as strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
