The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will have responsibility for research project development, publication and engagement within the University’s new Connect Cities Lab, a research centre of the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning (ABP) at the University of Melbourne. In particular, the Postdoctoral Research Fellow will work in the Lab for the ‘Knowledge in Action for Urban Equality’ (KNOW) programme, a 4-year $12.5m global consortium of researchers and partners across 13 institutions, focusing on 9 countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America to addresses the challenge of achieving urban equality in cities in the Global South. KNOW is guided by the aspiration to produce more equal cities, focusing on three challenges: delivering prosperity, tackling extreme poverty and building resilient cities. The Fellow will work in the Work Package entitled “Translating research into practice”, that will focus on 3 of the 6 KNOW cities in Africa (Sierra Leone, Kampala and Dar es Salaam), Asia (Colombo) and Latin America (Lima and Havana). The aim of this Work Package is to build capacities to translate the learning generated by the research activities into policy and planning practice contributing towards the production of urban equality. In particular, within the Connected Cities Lab, the Fellow will work on research and capacity building activities focused on the interaction between international urban governance (e.g. UN agencies) and the geographies of knowledge production and circulation in urban development, and how they impact planning practices.
