Grade 9: £46,336 - £53,691 p.a.
The University of Oxford’s IT Services Department have an exciting opportunity for a full-time Network Technical Leader within the newly formed Managed Network Services Team.
The Managed Network Services team are already responsible for the entire networking in over 50 buildings across the University estate and are looking to expand these services to more departments and buildings.
This technical position would ideally suit a senior network engineer that is interested in a new challenge and demonstrating their skills across the University of Oxford.
The postholder will be expected to design and deliver enterprise networking to numerous departments within the University. Working alongside the team’s manager you will be leading the delivery of network solutions both wired and wireless to match the business needs.
A good understanding IPV4/6, OSPF, BGP along with demonstrable experience of configuring switches, firewalls and wireless networks is essential for this role. Experience of working with Cisco, HP Aruba and Fortinet would be advantageous. You will also be expected to be able to troubleshoot layer 2 and 3 problems when they occur.
A key component of the work will be re-designing local networks and introducing management tools to better suit the University’s growing network requirements. You will be expected on occasion to present those designs to key technical engineers and senior management.
Although this is not a management role, you will be expected to technically mentor junior members of the team and provide technical insight to other members of the University.
Whilst the role is a Grade 9 position, we would be willing to consider candidates with potential but less experience who are seeking a development opportunity, for which an initial appointment would be at Grade 8 (£39,992 - £47,722 p.a.) with the responsibilities adjusted accordingly. This would be discussed with applicants at interview/appointment where appropriate.
The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on Wednesday 5 September 2018. It is anticipated that interviews will be held the week commencing 24 September 2018.
