About the role
You will develop, plan and carry out a research project aimed at characterising allergens from fungi identified as potentially having a role in asthma, using relevant metholodolgy, specialised techniques and taking a role in project management. You will use immunoprecipitation, western blot and mass spectrometry to characterise the fungal antigens, produce recombinant proteins by standard cDNA cloning techniques and develop an ELISA to help determine their clinical relevance.
You will use your excellent communication skills to liaise with external collaborators in research charities, government and private organisations as well as taking part in critical discussion and exchange of ideas within the research group and wider department.
With a PhD in clinical mycology and immunology and a basic understanding of asthma and related conditions, you will have experience in a range of relevant techniques and methodologies and a thorough knowledge of the research field.
You must have a track record of involvement in innovative research resulting in research publications in peer reviewed journals and presentations, ideally at national and international meetings. Experience in preparing grant and fellowship applications would be beneficial.
