The Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies (AIPT) http://www.aston.ac.uk/eas/research/groups/photonics/ is seeking a Research Associate to support the delivery of a project entitled Enabling Technologies and Innovation Competencies Challenge (ETICC) funded by the European Structural Investment Fund (ESIF) and European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
You will join an established group working on solving industrial challenges faced by SMEs. The group works on a one-to-one basis with companies providing advice on site and through the analyses of company data.
You will be responsible for assisting businesses and collaborating with SMEs and will also help to facilitate workshops and other project events with SMEs. Key tasks will include assisting in the engagement of SMEs and in selecting SMEs from ETICC calls; assisting the Business Engagement Manager to market the project by attending events; leading and undertaking collaborative projects with SMEs; contributing to project delivery as required by the ETICC project manager.
You will have (or be nearing completion of) a PhD in a relevant subject; have experience of initiating and conducting research up to doctoral level; publishing in internationally leading journals and presenting papers at seminars; have experience in optical fibre sensors and photonic technologies and in fibre Bragg grating writing research and technology; experience of positive collaboration outside of your immediate research team and the ability to supervise other personnel involved in the project.
