4 Open Topic Tenure Track Professorships for Digital Transformation

(W1 / Assistant Professor or W2 / Associate Professor)

W1 professorships are to be filled by the earliest possible starting date for an initial period of three years. Upon successful evaluation, the appointment will be extended for another three years. FAU offers the long-term perspective of a permanent appointment to a W2 or W3 professorship if the requirements of the tenure evaluation are met.

W2 professorships are to be filled by the earliest possible starting date for an initial period of six years. FAU offers the long-term perspective of a permanent appointment to a W2 professorship if the requirements of the tenure evaluation are met.

We seek to appoint top early career scholars who will develop outstanding expertise in the field. The professorships are financed with funds from a Federal and State programme for supporting young researchers at German universities. All professorships are intended to make significant contributions to the FAU key research priorities. This call for applications addresses outstanding early career scholars with the ambition of developing their own profiles and careers as part of the strategic development of a key priority in cooperation with renowned scholars at FAU (‘Open Topic Tenure Track’). The positions announced in this call for applications will strengthen research and teaching in the field 'Digital Transformation'. The successful candidates will be invited to play an active role in the FAU key research priority 'Electronics, Analytics and Digital Transformation', the Interdisciplinary Center for Digital Humanities and Social Sciences (IZdigital) at FAU as well as in the FAU Center for Management, Technology and Society (CMTS).

The Faculty of Sciences invites applications for a W2 professorship in the Department of Geography and Geosciences at the Institute of Geography. We seek to appoint an expert who will develop an internationally visible research and teaching profile in cultural / human geography (in particular in the Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes in Cultural / Human Geography, and the teaching degree programme in Geography). Applications are welcome from qualified scientists researching the role of digital data in processes of socio-spatial transformation and investigating the causes and effects of advanced datafication. The professor is expected to focus on and expand methods of gathering, processing and analysing geodata. In addition to strengthening research into digitalisation in the field of cultural / human geography, it is desirable that the professor can create connections towards other major research focus areas in cultural / human geography at FAU, in particular urban studies.

The Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Theology is seeking to appoint two W1 professors with an interdisciplinary research focus to address the opportunities and challenges entailed by digitalisation and teach in the relevant degree programmes.

Applications are invited for a W1 professorship in the Department of Classical World and Asian Cultures at the Institute of Languages and Cultures of the Middle East and East Asia. The successful candidate will be expected to represent the subject of Japanese studies in teaching and research. The position requires qualifications in Japanese studies, which should generally be in the form of a doctoral degree in Japanese studies, and evidence of specialisation in the field of digitalisation (as a socio-cultural phenomenon and/or method used in the field of digital humanities and social sciences).

Applications are invited for a W1 professorship in the Department of Media Studies and Art History at the Institute of Book Science. Digitalisation has an impact on public communication via the media and is particularly challenging as far as institutions and governance structures are concerned. The successful candidate is expected to develop this area of research into media and communications, focusing in particular on the differences between changes which have occurred over time compared to previous conditions. Applicants are required to have a wide range of qualifications in research into media and communications. The successful candidate will be expected to communicate with disciplines which take both a historiographical and a technical approach.

The Faculty of Business, Economics, and Law invites applications for a W1 professorship in the School of Business and Economics. The professorship is to be established as part of the School's research focus area Digitalisation of the Economy. As well as strengthening this research focus area in the long term, the professor should collaborate with other research focus areas in the School. The successful candidate is expected to teach in the degree programmes offered by the School.
