A vacancy has arisen for a Research Assistant to join the Physiology, Exercise and Nutrition Research Group with a focus on Sports Nutrition. The project funder is American Pistachio Growers. This is a fixed-term position for a period of 18 months. The post-holder will be based at the University of Stirling, but maybe required to travel across to San Diego prior to project commencing.
The postholder will assist in a randomised controlled trial of a pistachio intervention to improve recovery among endurance athletes following downhill running ‘muscle damaging’ exercise. He/she will recruit study participants and will collect data within a controlled laboratory setting. Study participants will be recruited from local running clubs. This will involve visiting running clubs throughout the Stirling area. Some weekend and evening working will be required.
This is a challenging post and the person appointed will need to be resourceful, dedicated, and enthusiastic. Communication and interpersonal skills are critically important for success in recruiting and retaining participants in the study. It is essential that the post-holder is able form a good rapport with study participants and communicate effectively and professionally with the research team. Training will be given where appropriate.
