The University of Southampton is home to the Wessex Institute which oversees a number of research funding programmes, including those that are managed on behalf of the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) and the National Institute for Social Care and Health Research (NISCHR).

A vacancy has arisen for a Senior Finance Manager within the Finance & Contracts Team based at Chilworth. You will jointly lead an enthusiastic and cohesive team working flexibly to add maximum value to the management of health and social care research across the globe. 

As one of two Senior Finance Managers, you will be expected to be a professionally qualified accountant with extensive experience and able to use your financial expertise in other areas of the business such as workforce and business planning.  With proven team management and organisational skills and confident using the MS Office suite, particularly Excel. Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as is the ability to constantly re-evaluate and re-prioritise your workload to reflect the ever-changing needs of a busy team environment.  

Experience of the financial aspects of funding research overseas in low middle income countries and specific knowledge of Overseas Development Aid (ODA) would be beneficial.

You will need to be able to work well as part of a team, which is committed to adding maximum value to the management of health research.
