WMG’s Energy Innovation Centre (EIC) is a national facility for battery research across the R&D process from materials and electrochemistry through to application integration and recycling / re-use. The centre has recently had a £20M investment as part of the Energy Research Accelerator programme. The postholder will be expected to play a leadership role in the EIC, and this new post will complement existing expertise in electrochemical engineering, energy storage and management, electric machines and power electronics.

Applications are sought from experienced academics with an established body of academic research in areas related to battery chemistry, electrochemical innovation and/or battery recycling. She or he will have an international recognition for published work as well as a sustained history of obtaining grant funding, familiarity with working alongside industrial partners, and the ability to operate in a collegiate manner with academics from other disciplines. Crucially, she or he will be passionate about the future of battery research and applications and WMG’s role in delivering solutions to some of the technological challenges that R&D in this area will face.
