The Robinson Research Institute has an international reputation for superconducting engineering, materials physics and manufacturing engineering.

We are seeking an experienced research scientist to work within our applied High-Tc superconductor engineering programme. Current projects include rotating machines, magnetic bearings, magnet systems and brushless exciters. The successful applicant will contribute to a range of applied projects, working closely with our international and domestic research partners. The ideal applicant will be familiar with the practical implementation of HTS flux pump technology, as well as Finite Element modelling of HTS materials and machines.

The candidate should enjoy working across a multidisciplinary collaborative team. This early career position will receive mentoring to develop their own academic research programme and be supported in their development of their research career within the Institute.

Successful applicants will have:

  • A post graduate degree (PhD) in Engineering or relevant scientific discipline or have a technical degree with extensive post-graduate engineering experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication with a strong record of peer reviewed journal publications
  • Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced environment alongside other high-performing researchers.
  • Ambition and drive to develop and independent research career in superconductor physics and engineering
  • Excellent technical skills including one or more of:
    • Practical development and implementation of experimental laboratory prototype devices and machines
    • COMSOL modelling of superconducting devices
  • Ability to supervise postgraduate research students and manage complex engineering projects
  • Aptitude and willingness to learn new skills required to address difficult problems.
