EMBL is looking for a highly motivated and experienced graphic designer to join its Strategy and Communications team. You will lead design production and services, delivering a range of products for diverse stakeholders. You will work closely with our Design Team Lead to create materials for both digital and offline channels.

We are an international, friendly and supportive team, with ties to scientists and professionals throughout EMBL and to the broader science communication community. This role is based in Heidelberg, Germany.

Your role

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing design briefings with internal stakeholders
  • Producing, reviewing and approving designs, illustrations, artwork, photography, and graphics developed by internal and external designers
  • Managing design projects handled by internal and external designers and suppliers
  • Building and maintaining a network of external providers of design and production services
  • Producing artwork, designs and layouts for web, printed publications, presentations, posters and exhibition material as required
  • Applying EMBL’s corporate design across channels and products

You have

  • Ideally five years of experience of graphic design experience
  • Extensive experience with Adobe Creative Suite
  • A passion for science and a desire to understand complex scientific concepts in order to visualise them for a variety of audiences
  • Good organisational skills, including time management and an ability to track and prioritise tasks and projects
  • Strong communication skills
  • An understanding of digital design processes and tools is a plus
  • A good command of spoken and written English is necessary

You might also have

  • Knowledge of other languages, particularly French, Italian or Spanish
  • Experience working in an international environment
