We’re looking for a German-speaking Press Officer to coordinate media activities. As Press Officer you will work closely with the Engagement Team, writers, designers, and other members of our Strategy and Communications department. You will identify news stories across EMBL’s six sites and manage and develop content targeted at press. This will include press releases, videos and social media activity. You will also organize events for press and other audiences.

Your role

Responsibilities include:

  • Identifying newsworthy stories across the organisation
  • Writing and editing content in both English and German, in collaboration with Content and Design teams
  • Establishing and maintaining active, effective relationships with journalists
  • Organizing press conferences, press visits and tours, and briefing and training spokespeople
  • Building close working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, both internal and external, for example liaising with press officers at collaborating organisations to ensure well-coordinated press activities
  • Monitoring and evaluating the impact of EMBL’s press work
  • Repackaging content for press and social media activities
  • Occasionally organizing events for other stakeholders of the engagement team

You have

  • Several years of experience in a media-relations role, ideally in a science-based environment at international level
  • An excellent command of spoken and written English and German
  • A university degree or relevant professional qualification
  • A proactive, open and professional attitude
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience and interest in a variety of social network platforms
  • A passion for science and the ability to communicate confidently and clearly about complex scientific issues

You might also have

  • Experience in working with social media and organizing various types of outreach events is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of other languages besides English and German, particularly French, Italian or Spanish, is advantageous.
  • Experience working in an international environment is an asset.
