The School of Languages, Linguistics and Film is looking to appoint to a Lecturer in Linguistics to deliver teaching and assessment across undergraduate and, as appropriate, taught postgraduate programmes. The position is available on a Teaching & Research or Teaching & Scholarship basis depending on the relevant skills and experience of the successful candidate.

Duties under Teaching and Research:
Duties will include undertaking high quality research, exhibition and publication, convening and teaching undergraduate modules, contributing to MA provision as appropriate, (co)-supervising PhD students, and undertaking administrative roles and pastoral duties as required within the Department of Linguistics. Depending on your expertise and specific needs in the department, you will be expected to teach some of the following modules; Language in the UK, Languages of the World, Multilingualism and Bilingualism, Acoustic Analysis of Speech, Sounds of English.

You will hold a PhD in Linguistics or have a relevant professional qualification or equivalent professional experience, together with the ability to deliver teaching and assessment at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The ability to work constructively and flexibly with colleagues, and good organisational and communication skills are also essential. Evidence of high quality research and publications in renowned journals is expected of candidates applying for the Teaching & Research position. The post is full time and fixed term for 12 months starting 01 January to 31 December 2019. Starting salary will be in the range of £41,682 to £44,015 per annum. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

This post is available as a result of maternity leave absence and it is expected that you will hold it for the full period. However, should the post-holder on maternity leave exercise her right to return to work earlier, then this appointment will end, subject to a notice period of one month.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
