Applicants must be skilled at managing a complex schedule and handling multiple requests at once, often with changing priorities. Excellent interpersonal skills are a prerequisite, as is confidence communicating with colleagues at all levels including senior leadership, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a wider team. The role will draw on considerable experience gained in a position such as PA or Senior Secretary.

Duties will include management of a complex diary, travel arrangements, maintaining and keeping an up-to-date filing system, arranging and servicing meetings, processing expense claim forms and managing budgets with the support of the Section Manager.  The post holder will be required to draft correspondence, agendas, and other documents.  Therefore, excellent written and verbal communication skills are imperative. The post holder will work closely with the members of Professor Freemont’s’ research group, as well as other staff members in the Section, and the Divisional Administration team.  The post holder will be required to assist other academic members of staff as needed. Other duties will include making arrangements for events held by the Section/Centre, managing sectional resources, and acting as the first point of contact for visitors, staff and students.

This post is a busy and varied role, and, as such, the post holder will be expected to work independently to plan and prioritise their own work activities.  The post holder should cope well under pressure and be able to manage competing demands effectively. Experience of providing a customer-focused service, and self-sufficiency in the use of the Microsoft Office packages are essential. Knowledge and experience of administration in a higher education environment is desirable.
