A Research Technician position has become available in the Section of Infectious Diseases in the Department of Medicine, based at St Mary’s Campus Imperial College London.
The Research Technician will join a multidisciplinary team working on the Innovate UK grant headed by Professor Robin Shattock. The post holder will be involved in a one-year project to test new vaccines designed to induce immune responses to the filoviruses, Ebola and Marburg and the Lassa arenavirus. The work will involve the production, validation and analysis of recombinant proteins – viral glycoproteins and monoclonal antibodies required for a range of immunological and biochemical assays. The post holder will use these core reagents to perform various immunological assays to analyse the vaccine-elicited immune responses.
The post holder will be competent in a range of molecular biology techniques (DNA cloning, plasmid purification etc.) required for expression of recombinant proteins. The post holder will be expected to express, purify and quality control a range of monoclonal antibodies as well as a range of viral glycoproteins.
Post holders are expected to clearly express scientific concepts both verbally and in writing, and demonstrate a willingness to work collaboratively as part of a team, prioritising work and meeting deadlines.
You should hold at least a first degree or equivalent qualification in a science subject.
